Access to Nameri and Eaglenest is through Gauhati. It is a good idea to combine the two places as it gives an ovenight halt at Nameri  before reaching Gauhati for your flight or train. Nameri is about 210 kms from Gauhati. However, as roads can be bad at few points, it is a good idea to budget for about 5 hours. From Nameri to Eaglenest is another 6-7 hours via Bhalukpong were you are required to show your Inner Line Permit which is mandatory for Indian and overseas visitors. the nearest town to Eaglenest is Tenga 25 kms where there is an army cantonment. After Tenga valley the road is steep and rough and you know you are going deep into interiorArunachal Pradesh.

The facilities at Eaglenest are very basic. it is tents with common toilets.  Be prepared for contingencies as well as the rain and cold.  Leave aside mobile/internet connectivity, there is no electricity available at Eaglenest. You will be provided a lantern in your tent. Howeve, a torch to access the toilet is a must. Limited facilities for charging camera batteries for about one hour may be made available during the evenings through car batteries. However, given the great opportunities for continous clicking, additional batteries and cards is highly desirable.

This was indeed an amazing trip. For an avid birder/naturalist, a once-in a lifetime trip to Eaglenest is a must. The roughing out part is a very small price to pay for the wonderful variety of birdlife that you can view in a short span of few days. You will really breathe in nature in its pristine glory. Thank you Mandar and Adesh for the excellent organisation of the trip and especially for sharing your great passion and enthusiasm because of which it was possible to see the flying beauties of the area. A special word of thanks also goes to our young and enthusiastic guide Phurpa for pointing out some good spots and species. My appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Nameri Eco Camp; Mr. Indiglo as well as the courteous and ever smiling and supportive staff of both Lama & Sunderview camps for giving us excellent service to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay; Our drivers - Ashok, Asim who cheerfully drove us through some really rough terrain often late into the night and did some good trouble-shooting to get us to our destination through inclement weather; My fellow travellers from diverse backgrounds most of whom were hard core birders who brought their unique perpective to birding and the humour element that bound us together and lifted our spirits through the bad weather and vehicle challenges throughout  the trip. We each went home with wonderful memories. But rest assured - Arunachal, I shall return to explore your beauty!
